In the Best Possible Hands

Barbara's Story

I can think of no better place to have broken something. Seriously.
If there was a way to give each member of your team a medal, I would!
-Barbara Bodenhoefer

In January 2025, retired nurse Barbara Bodenhoefer had been skiing all day with family friends and was “within view of the pavement” at Main Lodge when she caught a piece of ice and heard a snap. She knew immediately she had broken a bone—her femur.

However, she said post-accident, “I can think of no better place to have broken something. Seriously.”

Barbara says she was “lucky I happened to have my accident right outside the ski patrol office,” and “everybody who helped me, from start to finish, was incredible.”

Barbara worked as a nurse for 35 years and has had many experiences as a patient in healthcare facilities, “so I know excellence!”

Barbara made a donation to the Mammoth Hospital Foundation in honor of her caregivers, including a member of Mammoth Hospital’s dietary staff who “was like a mom taking care of me.”

“If there was a way to give each member of your team a medal, I would!”

The Mammoth Hospital Foundation’s “Moving Mountains” program is an avenue for patients to express their gratitude for exceptional care.
