A Young Fighter's Road to Recovery

Wyatt's Story

Wyatt's Story
I can’t thank the Foundation enough for helping our family through this journey.
-Jonnel Leggette

Thirteen-year-old Wyatt Legette showed up at the Mammoth Hospital emergency room just a couple days after Christmas, 2023, with flu-like symptoms.

Wyatt has an autoimmune illness that has been with him much of his life, but it had mostly been managed. This time, Wyatt was not getting better. Within two hours of Wyatt entering the ER, he was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. “I had 20 minutes to pack,” said his mom Jonnel.

Wyatt didn’t end up coming home to Mammoth for almost six months.

“It was infection after infection, then pneumonia, then respiratory failure,” says Jonnel. Wyatt ended up being transferred to a specialty hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah,

“What we witnessed as parents, I can’t even find the words,” says Jonnel. “He almost died seven times. The strength that we saw in him is more than I’ve seen in anyone. It’s an experience he will carry for this rest of his life.”

The Mammoth Hospital Foundation’s Rhiannon’s Kids program, funded entirely by donors, supported Wyatt, Jonnel and their family through their travels for Wyatt’s care in the early months of 2024. “It helped alleviate some of the stress of the severe crisis our family went through,” says Jonnel. “I can’t thank the Foundation enough for helping our family through this journey.”
